AMI Typeface & Album Cover Design
The purpose of this project was to design a typeface based on the exploration of a musical artist and their cultural background and music style. Having chosen artist Jae-il Jung, who is most famous for his soundtracks for the South Korean film “Parasite” and television series “Squid Game” I researched some of his other music and came across some of his more cultural and traditional hits.
“Who Am I” is the music I based my typeface off of, which is a mix of modern and more traditional sounds with its use of the piano and Korean traditional instruments like the gayageum and the daegeum. The Ami typeface portrays the level of expression present within the music, while following the shape of the circle which was used for many traditional symbols and designs in Korean history.
